Open Graph and X card preview
Paste your tags or fill in the fields and see how your page looks when someone shares it on Facebook, LinkedIn, X, WhatsApp and Slack. Each preview cuts the text where that platform cuts it, so you can spot a chopped title before your client does.
Your page
Used for the domain shown on every card and for the og:url tag.
Keep it near 60 characters. X cuts around 70, Facebook around 88, and a long title reads badly on a phone even when it fits.
Around 110 characters survives on X. Facebook and LinkedIn give you closer to 200. Put the point in the first sentence.
Full URL, starting with https. 1200 x 630 pixels is the safe size.
Goes in twitter:site. Leave it empty if you have no account.
Wide suits almost everything. Pick summary only when your image is square, such as a logo.
<head> or the whole page in here.
What people will see

Meta tags to paste in your head

Drop these inside <head>, above the closing tag. If you use Yoast or RankMath, set them in the social tab of the page instead so the plugin does not overwrite you.
Which tags each platform reads
Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp and Slack all read the same three Open Graph tags: og:title, og:description and og:image. When a tag is missing they guess. The title falls back to your <title> element, the description falls back to your meta description, and the image falls back to whatever the scraper happens to find in the page, which is usually your logo or a stock photo from the sidebar.
X works the other way round. It looks for twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image first, then falls back to the og: versions. That fallback is why most sites write one good set of og: tags and add only twitter:card on top. You get the same card everywhere without maintaining two sets of copy.
One tag gets forgotten more than the rest. og:url tells the platform which page a share belongs to, so a link with a tracking parameter stuck on the end still counts as the same page rather than a new one.
The image size that works everywhere
Use 1200 x 630 pixels. That is a 1.91:1 ratio, which is what Facebook and LinkedIn crop to, and X accepts it happily for a wide card. Smaller images get stretched or dropped back to a small thumbnail, and very tall images get cut through the middle of whatever mattered.
Two habits save you trouble. Keep logos, faces and any text well inside the frame, because WhatsApp and Slack shrink the same file into a small box and the edges go first. And save a normal JPG or PNG at a sensible file size: some scrapers give up on a huge file, and a few still refuse WebP and SVG.
Why your card still shows the old image
You fixed the tag, you reshared the link, and the old card came back. Every platform keeps a copy of what it scraped the first time, and it will keep serving that copy for days. Nothing is wrong with your page.
For Facebook and WhatsApp, run the URL through the Facebook sharing debugger and press Scrape Again. For LinkedIn, use the Post Inspector, which refreshes on the spot. X has no public tool now, so give the image a new filename, or add something like ?v=2 to the image URL and update the tag. A new file path is treated as a new image, which gets round the cache every time.
WhatsApp and Slack read the same tags
It is easy to build cards for the feed and forget where links actually get sent. Plenty of sharing happens one person at a time, in a WhatsApp message or a work channel, where nobody sees a like count and nobody tags you. Both read your og: tags, both show a cramped version of the title, and both fall back to a bare blue link when the image is missing. Get the four core tags right and that quiet sharing looks after itself.
